Apple Really Sells a Lot of Ebooks!

If we know that Amazon is the leader in sales of digital books, we know less than Apple arrives just behind, far ahead of Kobo and the other players.

I found figures that show the number of ebooks sold by the major American digital book actor.

As I do not think I have published them previously, I think it is interesting to comment them here:

First of all, I would like to point out that these numbers are for one year, between spring 2016 and spring 2017, and for a handful of countries.

It is worth noting that there are over half a billion ebooks sold in a year. In my opinion, we must not be far from the billion, if we count Europe and Asia.

Then, if Amazon is first, Apple holds a huge market share for a company that does not offer a reader and has more or less stopped innovating in ebook reader.

The surprise comes from Kobo, which holds only 2% of the market while the company is well established in Canada. We see that it is under tough competition from Apple, but also from Barnes & Noble.

Again, this is a surprise, as the Barnes & Noble Nooks reader has not been updated since 2015. However, it is clear that users are satisfied and always use them.

Now, it would be really interesting to have the same figures for Europe because I think Apple has a much less favorable position.
