Did you know that ChatGPT is making up facts just like that?

Discover one interesting yet dangerous ability that ChatGPT possesses: hallucination

ChatGPT and other AI chatbots such as Bing can make up facts that are not only false but there isn’t any information about them on the web. That’s really strange and interesting. How can an AI chatbot invent something on its own without having information about it? This is also called “hallucination”.

ChatGPT is capable of generating a complete biography of a person who has never existed. As well as facts about an event that has never occurred. I made a Bing search writing the following: “ChatGPT is capable of making a biography of a person who has never existed”.

Look at the response of Bing’s chatbot:

Bing’s chatbot seems to defend ChatGPT against this accusation saying that it is not possible to create unexisting information. On the other hand, ChatGPT says that he can do it:

He really says that he possesses such abilities and that he is capable of doing that based on the information available to him. We have two different opinions here, which creates even stranger circumstances. However, how can he generate information about something if he hasn’t any information concerning that thing? This is the main question.

Let’s see an example of a false event that ChatGPT invented. A person named Jonathan Turley who is a law professor was accused of sexual harassment over one of his students. ChatGPT was asked to generate a list of people who had sexually harassed other people. And guess what: the name of the law professor was on the list. After an investigation, Jonathan Turley was declared innocent and the fault was attributed to ChatGPT. Just imagine how dangerous this technology can be.

Even OpenAI’s CEOs Sam Altman and Mira Murati can’t explain why ChatGPT is acting like that. They confirm that this technology has its risks. One possible explanation would be that ChatGPT confuses imaginary individuals and events with existing ones and generates information based on this confusion. But this is just my suggestion, the real reason is still unrevealed. What do you think about this?
