Kobo Aura One: BD and PDF Reading
In a few days, you will be able to get the Kobo Aura One and you will have it in your hands. But, in the meantime, here is a small Italian video that presents its interface of reading.
The Kobo Aura One features a large 7.8-inch screen. Given this characteristic (and its tightness) it attracted much attention. This video in Italian is short and, although my Italian is a little rusty, it is easy to understand what are the advantages and defects of the machine:
Despite the quality of the video, we realize that the screen looks very good. One finds the finesse and the contrast expected. Similarly, the lighting seems suitable.
Quickly, the video evokes the reading of comics. The display may be a bit fair, but it seems you can read manga – for example. However, we note that the reader is slow for everything that is PDF management … This is not new but it is always a little disappointing.
The perfect reader for reading PDFs is not yet released …
Kobo Aura One: prices and specifications
The Kobo Aura One is, therefore, a reader with a touch screen of 7.8 inches.
The screen will be eInk Carta 2 and with a beautiful resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels. This is much better than what Pocketbook offers with its Inkpad 2 Reader.
If we do the calculation we arrive at 300 PPI. In other words, although this reader has a much larger screen than conventional reading lights, the definition makes the screen just as accurate. If we add to this the quality of the contrast of the Carta screens, one can only be reassured as regards the comfort of reading.
It is a 1 Ghz processor with 512 MB of RAM that will operate the reader. We will have at our disposal 8 GB of storage for ebooks.
Good news: this Kobo Aura One follows the path opened by the Kobo Aura H2O since it is also waterproof. This ebook reader can resist to water but also to sand and dust.
It seems that the screen also proposes a lighting system. It will have to test its effectiveness because illuminating such a large screen is not an easy thing!
Finally, the price announced is 229 £. It is a pity that Kobo has not managed to pass under the symbolic bar of the 200 £ but this places this Kobo Aura One largely in front of the Kindle Oasis.
On paper, there is no photo: the Kobo Aura One seems much more interesting.
Of course, we’ll have to wait for Kobo’s confirmation and an official release date. But everything leads us to believe that it is soon!
